The original 3 piece Stronglight crank extractor had a 16mm "socket" for removing and tightening the bolts and operating the remover. They even had blades on the backside for removing the old style dust caps that were used on the model 49 cranks until they were discontinued in the mid 70s.

Like John mentioned, Craftsman 12 point sockets have very thin walls that should work fine.

Why would anyone design a system such as this? Why did they use 23.35mm extractor threads!
