The problem with _all_ crank removers is that as soon as the crank is extracted, the tool is in a state to strip the threads the next time it's used (because the pushing-bolt will bottom out the remover the next time it's screwed in.)

The best solution to this problem is to remember - ALWAYS - to back off the pushing-bolt BEFORE you remove the remover from the crank. So you put away the tool IN A SAFE STATE, which will help prevent stripped the cranks the next time you use the tool.
