That top tube isn't short if you add in the c/c which may make it
53.5/54ish.
The tied and soldered spokes would have been for lighter than HF hubs and
stiff like them on riding.
Good for smoother rode events, but not always ideal for cobbles, etc. Nice
effect and professional touch for the price.
Van Looy had an explosive sprint at the end which folks thought came from
his alledged going on the rollers after a long training ride for maybe 20/30
minutes, having a few sprints, and winding down while recirculating his legs
with the fast lite motion.
Never saw this but that was the story.
About the little plastic 'frame' protectors'
We did something like that. Bought some hollow clear plastic tubing cut a 2
inch piece and pushed it over the SS housing before assembling on frame. You
could push it up or down to adjust height and the extra length allowed for
turning of thr bar and housing movement.
The plastic did rub somewhat too, but not as naughty as the direct metal.
Best is to get some of the new mylar and stick it on frame at the contact
point. Shops used to have these kits with little stick on pieces for various
areas of frame to protect.
I'll look and see if I have some packets in my stash and let the list know.
You could do tubing and patch and be very secure for your paint.
That knob on the housing looks quaint but I wonder how effective it really
was.
Most of the guys I know didn't put the toestrap thru the eyelet because it
made a lump and if your foot was wider or moved sideways a little that would
touch your foot and you'd squish the strap while feeling a bump.
So the guys bypassed it. Which is why it probably was eliminated.
