I've been using fingertips since 1972, first with the stainless housing and later with the lined modern stuff and I've never had shifting problems. And I always exit the housing at the stem. That's how my Colnago came in 1972, it's how I always saw the few racing bikes-like Van Looy's-route it and if it was good enough for them it's good enough for me. Plus it looks better. Phil Brown 4 bikes set up that way in Oakland, Calif.
