In about 1978 I had an old Ideale saddle lying around, and while I did not have a drill press or milling machine, I did have a leather punch. So, in the spirit of the times, I punched out the side panels. Saved virtually no weight. But it actually looked pretty good; made a nice compliment to the Stronglight 105 bis on the same bike. Rode the same after the treatment. In retrospect I realize that I could have used the bottom row of holes to lace the saddle and at least had the appearance of utility.
