Chris, that frame looks absolutely new! Amazing..

Just out of curiosity, how do you date it as 1979? Is that part of a serial number search?

My memory is fading badly but "Tim Issac designs" would most likely be the fast back style low level seat post binder bolt. He introduced that style and it was similar to his designs he used on his opwn branded custom bikes prior to coming to Trek.

This design looks like the earlier style, brought forward from the earliest days...

Trying to recall when Tim Isaac arrived at Trek... I went to a sales meeting there right after he arrived and was out of their employment within a year ot so after that.

I bet John Thompson will recall all these details.

Hello all,

I've just posted some photographs of a work-in-progress, a 1979 Trek 938. Very

nice bike, likely a Tim Isaac design. 60cm, Columbus SL tubes, Campagnolo drop

outs. Rear end spaced @ 120, front @ 100.

I still need to get the proper wheelset on it, with early Dura Ace black hubs.

Also an appropriate-timeframe seatpost.

Some interesting components include most of a first generation Shimano Dura Ace

group in black. Very cool first-gen black D-A headset, black Crane rear

derailleur. I plan on adding the remaining black components as time and funds

permit. That, plus locating them...

The current wheelset is built from first generation Shimano 600 hubs, DT Swiss

spokes, and Sun CR18 rims. Great combination, very solid wheels.

The D-A pedals, 7400 seatpost, Flite saddle, and wheels are so that I can ride

it. And it rides very well, really great geometry. Very quick, and feels light,

which is very nice.

??

So have a look and enjoy!
