Older than the Sun CR18 was the CR16 (?) I believe and Mavic made a T520 rim in 32 & 40 hole configurations. The ones that I have are all 700c rims, however. Those are older rims but at least it increases your choices. I've used all thre rims on my vintage British bikes.

Harris Cyclery used to stock the venerable CR-18 in 40 holes, but apparently no longer. I'd love to get something like the even nicer rims that Velo Orange and Vintage Bicycle Press sell, not yet available in 40 holes.

Or is there enough need from the vintage community to support having one of those two company's make a special order for 40 holed rims? Please let the group know on list if you'd be willing to purchase a modern, classic style 40 hole rim. I still believe that the 32 x 40 front/rear combination really is a nice idea even if no longer a standard.
