Hello Kevin and All CR Readers,

I have a Schwinn 73 Paramount that is a virgin with under 500 miles on it. The bike spent most all of its life on a wall in some guys living room. I have a spine/brain disability, so I have not ridden it. Do I know if the wheels were switched out in the back of the Schwinn store or at the factory? I don't know. The bike was either special ordered or bought of the showroom floor. It was bought with sew-ups (that is all we call them until someone corrected me in the 80's and informed me that they were tubulars) instead of clinchers. It was upgraded with the Campagnolo Nuovo Record brake set, bar end shifters and Cinelli bar and stem. There were no Schwinn approved wheels on now my Sierra Brown 73 Paramount that has I believe its original tubulars. The rims are Weinmann, with a multi-color stripped rectangular decal on each rim. Hope this helps.

Hi Jerry....and everyone

I keep seeing this term......'Schwinn approved'.......what is it with Schwinn?.......were they so fussy and particular that everything had to undergo strict testing to come up to their expectations and pass certain things so as to be 'allowed' to be fitted to Schwinn bikes!?

You never see 'Trek approved' or 'Colnago approved'................. Just wondering.....and scratching my head.......

Except, I don't think Weinmann ever made rims in France. AFAIK, the rims were made in Belgium, while brakes were made in Switzerland. So a French made Schwinn-approved "330" rim was quite likely just a rebaged Arc-en-Ciel. So maybe that might be a good choice.

\r?\n>

\r?\n> The 'Schwinn Approved' Rims have a logo very much like the

\r?\n> Weinmann

\r?\n> world-champion logo from the early 1970's. They cut

\r?\n> off the logo and

\r?\n> put 'Schwinn Approved <====*====> France' to the

\r?\n> right of the world

\r?\n> champion logo.

\r?\n>

\r?\n> If you want to use Super Champion Arc-en-Ciel (Rainbow)

\r?\n> rims, then I

\r?\n> think it's also a good choice. They weigh 330 grams,

\r?\n> just like the

\r?\n> '330' label on the Weinmann / Schwinn Approved rims.

\r?\n> I did some study

\r?\n> on some new clinchers for my 1974 P13-9 and I think Schwinn

\r?\n> shipped

\r?\n> super champion clincher rims on some other early 1970's

\r?\n> Paramounts.
