Subject: [CR] the fastback Paramount

I don't claim to know what this bike is (E-Bay item # 120481889227), but a funny story I should tell you about my '65 Paramount. It was all chrome, built for a Portland OR racer, who eventually sold it to Jim Papadopoulos, about 1973. With two pair of Cinelli bivalent wheels, no less. Jim sold it to me a while later, and I really have loved the bike. When the top tube developed a transverse crack behind the head lug, Schwinn refinished it for me, gratis. Gave me a choice of colors, but would not rechrome. It is now a lovely pale silver, stock color, but there are some special touches. Like the chromed top eyes on the stays. Chrome on most of the length of the chainstays, but none on the seat stays. Etc. Some time in the future, whoever buys it from my heirs will wonder if it was a real Paramount, regardless of the serial number. :-)

BTW, am I the only one who finds the combination of fastback stays with Nervex lug to be rather strange?

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Hi All. A couple of things: Those certainly don't look like Campy 1010 dropouts [which is what you'd expect on a '73] - the open part is way too large. There are no eyelets on the front fork, even the racing Paramounts had these in '73, i believe. The orange paint looks pretty close to the Schwinn orange of the day but this is not, was not, even close to the Molteni orange as claimed by the seller. Schwinn sold full chrome Paramounts but i've never heard of them painting over a full chrome frame like many Italian bikes and some Carltons, e.g. Listmembers correct me if i'm wrong, here. Do any of the Paramount afficionadoes on the list have any thoughts as to the serial #? Not a bad looking bike, but there's definitely some misinformation if not disinformation in the listing. How What is it? A true Mystery bike?

The brake bridge being chromed is also not right. ?Looked at other items the seller has had. ?Check out the Paramount track bike item 120465930332. Is that the correct fork crown and do the seat stays look right? It's been opined that this is not and never was a Paramount. ?I agree. ?Any guesses on just what it is? E-Bay item # 120481889227

It really is a nice bike, by the look of it.
