Hi Jerry, Point one, is that although the "new" hubs with RECORD on the barrels began to be in production in 62-63, there were still a fair amount of "No-Record" hubshells hanging around, waiting to be built with hardware, and put into wheels. I have seen many of these hubs with locknuts dated for 1965, which is not an exact science, but indicates that they were assembled to sale or use in 1965 or thereafter.

Point two, is that the 1970s double drilled Paramount hubs have RECORD on the barrels ... in fact, these are the only type of the Paramount hub I've seen. Have a set here, if you would like to see pics.

The story I heard here is that Schwinn drilled out the existing spoke holes to help the spoke heads sit more flush in the flange, and that the idea didn't work out too well, causing them to have to re-drill new spoke holes, in between the larger, now "ruined" holes. Use the small holes.

Looking through the parts bin I came upon a hub I didn't know I had. It is a Campy Record Large Flange, but drilled with an extra set of holes between the usual ones, i.e there are 72 holes rather than 36. I've read here these were made for Schwinn for Paramounts. What, again, was the purpose of the added drilling? I note the added holes are a bit larger than the standard ones. Which set did one actually lace the spokes through?

Another thing I note is that the hub is marked Campagnolo, but NOT "Record". Chuck's timeline says the word "Record" was added in 1963, so this hub would have to be very late 50's or very early 60's. Were all the double-drilled Schwinn hubs from this period, or did they appear on the later Record-marked hubs as well?
