When I got this book, English "100 Years of Cycling records", I knew it would be a real eye opener as to HOW fast a human can ride on a bike,it was first published in 1988 so NOW these times are history, I guess, But Re, Trikecycle times (UP TO 1988) in 1972 T Wairing set the 25mile record ON A TRIKE at 52min 34secs! the Best bike time at that date was P.W Crofts in 1971 did a 47.55. in 1978 On A TRIKE 25miles record was J.C Read 51.45secs! Bike record in 1982 was David C Lloyd in 42.37secs. For TWENTY FOURS ON A Bloody trike in 1965 P Kenny did 431 1/2Miles! the best 24hrs on a bike was was P.J Woodburn did 494 1/2miles, In England they also race on TANDEM TRICYCLES! Picture this TWO guys leaning the SAME way, (Wish two guys could lean the same was in the US to day!) But in 1954 two did 466 1/2 miles! I guess this includes a PIT stop! By the way Two guys on a trike did a 25 mile TT in 1978 in 41.24 so it looks like it take TWO on a tandem trike to go faster than ONE on a bike, Figures! But I do remember in the 50s Trikes where the rage and real hard to go in club rides, give em a wide berth! By the way the BEST I EVER did on a bike was 59mins for 25miles on a 84" FIXED GEAR,If I had twiddled any faster my legs would have fallen off, Cheers!
