Since Hi-E produced both hubs and rims they didn't need to be constrained by spoking "standards." Sorry for stating the obvious but maybe a few members didn't know what Hi-E made in the day - Hubs, skewers, rims, whole bikes (except tires, handlebars and seats) if I recall correctly.

Going to my first ABLA sanctioned bike race ever and seeing three complete new Hi-E race bikes helped persuade me that this hobby/sport/ culture of cycling was the thing to do. And 36 years later I'm still glad I decided to follow this path.
