My only wall hanger is a never-ridden Raleigh International. Everything else, including frames re-painted by Mr. Baylis and Mr. Bell, get ridden. I'm not at all worried about laying down a re-painted bike, as long as I come out of it OK. I can always send it back out to San Diego to be fixed. A pristine all-original bike is another matter. When I ride my Masi it's never with the original Martano rimed wheel-set. I slap on a Campy-hub/Ergal rim wheel-set and pray I don't wreck.

Most of us have multiple bikes and chose which to ride based on the situation. What would be the point in having a nice piece, be it a car, nice clothing, or a bike, if one doesn't use it? I can't afford stuff like that, and I don't think most others can either. They are meant to be enjoyed. The joy of bicycles involves riding them. Some of us may have one or two they are afraid to ride. I don't have any of those. I'm careful, but I also WANT the patina of use to begin once the restoration is complete.

When my Bentley is finished and I have put in countless hours getting it as nice as possible, it's NOT going to sit it the garage so I can look at it. What is the point in that? Most of the thinking related to wall hangers has to do with people concerned about the "value" of the bike and a "return on their investment". Bikes are not good investments unless one rides them and enjoys them and provide a good home for them. You can't put a dollar value on that.
