I agree. I think degree of polish and how much shine that was apparent probably did vary, which would have to do with many factors in the manufacturing process and later storage but all the hubs I've seen show clear signs that they were polished. The same is true of the shift levers and the front derailleur, though not as much, as well as all the anodized parts of course.
