Michael- I posted a few weeks ago about aluminum pivot pins and their replacement. If the pivot action is smooth and complete I would not take them apart. Only if there was a problem would I do that again. I do wonder if the steel pins (or the links and body holes) would be damaged during removal and whether the pins would be reusable.
