There is probably a corresponding ding in the down tube where the brake contacts it, or if the shifter was in the way, a bent right shifter. I see this all the time. The wheel spins around or maybe you crash on it, and the brake hits the down tube or shifter. I have a stash of new old stock long brake bolts if you need one. I have usually been able to straighten them though. They are pretty malleable.

ubject: [CR] Bent Campy Nuovo Record Brake Front Center Bolt

ettling into winter, I am cleaning and rebuilding components on recent eBay escues, while watching bad TV shows. I disassembled a Nuovo Record front rake from a 1973 original equipment Bottecchia. When I got down to the enter bolt (Part No. 2012) I found the thing to be bent. The long end of he bolt, that goes through the crown, is pretty badly bent, with the worst art of the bend at the front end. If you look at the bolt from the front f the bike, the bolt is bent up and to the right side of the bike, kind of oward the 10 o'clock position. I ask myself: How does this happen? I am onfident this is original equipment on this low mileage bike, which shows o damage to the bike or to the brake assembly, other than this bend to the olt. This is the second one like this I have encountered. The other is in my arts bucket since a couple years ago. Same problem, but not so severe a end. I will probably use a hammer and anvil on this bolt to see if I can alvage it. I can't imagine what kind of stresses on the brake could cause this bend. nyone else ever see this problem?
