You are correct that the load path and load cycle is completely different. But use has something to do with it. I've used Campy headsets for almost 40 years and the only ones I ever had trouble with were those that I hadn't personally adjusted. I use a slightly different method than most-hard to describe but easy to demonstrate-that seems to yield longer service life.
