I ran a triple on my Raleigh Pro Mark IV for years: 14-28 on the rear (to use w/ my NR rear derailleur) with about a 28-41-51 up front. (My memory is foggy on the front ring configuration, except for the middle ring on my converted 144 mm BCD NR cranks with an Avocet- compatible 74 mm BCD inner ring drilling.)

The NR front derailleur handled the triple OK, too...
