Subject: [CR] Barra Frame on eBay

Well, CR member Jaouen Bazin's Barra frame went for $575.

Not exactly dirt cheap, but I think the CR consensus was that this would probably top $1,000, even with the two small dents.

The difficulty of sourcing a LeChat FD to fit the brazeon was probably one factor holding down the price a bit. Another was probably that this is not really a touring/randonneur frame, as it has horizonal DO's and no fittings for mudguards under the bridge and fork.

While an Italian racing frame of this vintage might bring more money, it seems the enthusiasm for French bikes in the 40's and 50's is mostly for cyclotourist and randonneur machines, and despite the fame of Barra, a racing/sport model didn't bring out the heavy hitters. Probably the prominant Japanese collectors laid off or looked for a bargain, as they mostly go for touring bikes. I think this was a good deal for the buyer, hope it was a CR member.
