Subject: [CR] Reynolds '531' Decal Questions

Much has been discussed about the 531 decal but I have seen nothing about the little triangles flanking the 531. Bob Hanson pointed these out to me some time back. I think they are single quote marks and would be "proper English". They seem to have appeared late 60's early 70's prior to Reynolds establishing their copyright and on English language decals. http://www.velo-pages.com/main.php?g2_itemId=6323 shows the French without and the next picture shows the English with. Tube set advertising in this string shows the English version with quotes (on the box & the decal) in to the mid 70's if the dates can be trusted.

The attached photos are a '531' I put on my PX 10 in about 1970 (got it from a bike shop in So Cal.) http://www.flickr.com/photos/45152688@N06/4148337810/ Can't say for sure it is original.

The other thing I am hearing is that some were "dry transfer". The decal I put on was a decal, as us old guys know them, we wet them & slid them into place. The old '531's I am seeing on some bikes seem to be decals as well & they crack & peel off.

BTW has anyone been able to remove a 40 year old decal in one piece?
