Subject: [CR] Saronni Tubing Revisited

Recently there was a discussion thread on the Saronni commerative model in the early 1980's (perhaps beginning in about 1979) Colnago line up.

It was suggested that these frames were made of Columbus Aelle tubing.  I have an approximate 1980 model with a Columbus SL sticker on it.  I just had the bike apart for some sorting and took a look into the fork tube and noticed the "rifling" I believe is characteristic of SL tubing?  Also, the seat tube is most definitely 27.2 and not 27.0.

A decal on the chain stay says "Saronni Super".  Is it possible that there were two levels of the Saronni model, one made of Aelle and one made with SL tubing?  As I said in a previous thread, the frame, sans fork, weighs 1950 grams, which for a 56cm frame, is identical to the weight of a similar Super of the day.
