Hi James, Don't know what kind of bike your looking for, but there used to be small custom builders making Italian style racing bikes all over Germany, so for the souvenir quality of it all it might be nice to get s.th. regional.

There also used to be a lot of bike stores having private lable frames made by Italian manufacturers or some of the German mass production brands.

The higher end models of some German mass-production brands like Enik or Kalkhoff are quite attractive also.

Nice events to buy used (and s.t. vintage) bikes at are the bicycle flea markets held in southern Germany. Emmendingen, Kirchzarten and Freiburg (Haslach?- a suburb) have them one time a year - usually late March through early May (?), but they may exist around Heidelberg too, (search for "Fahrradflohmarkt + town").

there's a store in Malsch near Karlsruhe that used to have a lot of older/NOS components. Don't know about frames or complete bikes though.
