Here is a message from the owner of the wheels (eBay uk 110469355717)
Kathy Walter Peebles, Scotland Sandy Gilchrist World
I bought the rims about a year ago from someone in Berlin who asserted that
they were NOS, about 1936/8, never used. When I received them, they were
still wrapped in their original brown wrapping paper, and I have no reason
to doubt that they are pre-WWII. They are absolutely straight and true, I
have built them into good strong wheels, using proper stainless steel
washers under the (longer than standard) spoke nipples, and Italian Alpina
spokes, 3X. The whole wheel is made entirely of Italian components (FB
hubs). "DAM" is abbreviation for D'Allessandro Milano. The FB hubs are used,
but still have wonderful bearings. The chrome on the barrels is tarnished
and slightly cracked in places, but the flanges will polish up very well.
The wheels come with track wheelnuts. Being wood rims, they should obviously
never be used outside a velodrome, because water/moisture would ruin them.
They are for tubular tyres, not clinchers. So far, I have resisted the
temptation to use the wheels in my track bike at my local velodrome in
Newport (S Wales, UK). They are surprisingly light.
Any questions, please ask. Good luck!
Best regards
