Subject: [CR] Chrome Steerers - was: Bianchi fork steerer length

Greetings Folks,

About 30+ years ago I needed to have a fork steerer cut and rethreaded, but the shop would not do it because the steerer was chrome, so the fork went uncut!

I haven't needed to cut a chrome steerer since, but it gave me cause to once again reflect on the process, namely, is there an effective and easy method for removing chrome from a fork steerer?

Thanks,

Chuck Brooks Malta, NY NEUS

Thanks to everyone who responded. I decided not to go through with the deal. The seller was arrogant and communication was difficult at best; I could never get a straight answer from him. His asking price of $1000 was too high especially when considering the 'issues' with the fork.
