As far as I know - the original company shut down in 1952 and closed the factory. Then in the Sixties, the name was purchased and the company refounded and reopened in 1969 (under different management).

Anyone around that can expand on that?

I also was under the impression that the early bikes in the post war period before the closing were plated in copper and then in 1969 after they reopened, they were using the cromovelato technique to assimilate the appearance of being plated. I am having a tough time finding info - and am searching high and low in both english and italian.

I would also love to find pictures of Magni in 1948-1952 with his wiliers to see how they were constructed - what components he was using - how the cables were held to the bike, etc...I see the one in Jan Heine's book, but are there any other photos out there?

Thanks all, I'm very excited about this project, and as with any restoration, the important thing is to not destroy - to conserve - so I want to bring it back right, but anything not-reversable needs to be done right the first time...like plating vs chromovelato, etc...

\r?\n> Wilier is still being produced, and

\r?\n> indeed still being used in the Pro Tour peleton.  Are

\r?\n> you saying the current company has no connection to the

\r?\n> original one?  I know I have seen several On Topic

\r?\n> Wiliers, and I sure thought several of them were quite a bit

\r?\n> later than 1952.  So did they sell out to another

\r?\n> company in 1952 or just move production to a different site

\r?\n> like Carlton after the Worksop fire?
