No, it really is exactly like Motorcycle Trials -- trick riding with extremely low gears.

Trials bikes are typically built like a BMX with 24" or 26" wheels with very wide tires, a tiny front chainring, and a megarange cassette with a derailleur but a shortened chain. Hydraulic rim brakes from Magura were once common, but they seem to have mostly switched to discs for availability despite the loss of ground clearance.
