Dear Lou and CR members, I felt honored to be asked to dinner by Lou, especially after learning of all the classic bikes that have passed through his ownership over the years. I just wanted to correct Lou on a couple points, it's real Turquoise and the silver he mentioned was overlay and not engraved. I have been practicing my silver smithing since it is such an integral part of the southwest Native American scene. Incorporating it into the frames seemed a natural progression and something that both personalizes for the owner and identifies the builder. Thanks for the shout Lou and I hope we can get Bob to the next dinner too. Best, Dave P.

I was in Albuquerque this week and Dave Porter graciously agreed  to meet me for dinner and show me his shop afterward. Dave's bikes

have some very innovative features.  He has shared on the list his

Venturi effect forks, but he also has similar wind cheating features

elsewhere on his bikes.  I found the visit very interesting, seeing so

many bikes with features like that.  I should let him share the details

and pictures if he wants to do so.   His personal ride also has the

bling factor with nice engraved silver medalions under his custom

downtube cable guides (wrapped on the curve of the downtube) and

polished stones (similar to turquoise) mounted on the tips of his seatstays.

I have never seen that before.  I saw the tandem he is building f or

the hour record and will be interested in hearing how it does.

In addition to bikes, Dave makes a living restoring

old cars.  I got to see his personal collection of an Austin Healey 100 and

Austin Healey bugeye sprite and a Jaquar XK150 he is restoring.  It

is obvious that he has talent when it comes to metal working.
