Subject: [CR] Redeeming Ergo shifters OT?

I'm using modern PTFE bearing grease in the headset of my vintage bike does that disqualify me from discussion ?

In fact the BEST, smoothest shifting system I know of is to use "modern" campy rear derailleur with Suntour ratchet shifters on Sachs PC-51 chain with el cheapo (probably chinese) Shimano freewheel . This setup is smooth as a jet and more positive than Record Ergo 10.

I have hesitated to even broach the topic of such a "mongrel" system in this august forum for fear of being branded an heretic or banished completely.

So I'll keep quiet!
