Might I point out that it's entirely possible, practical and purposeful to wear classic leather-soled cycling shoes and ride WITHOUT cleats. I've been doing so exclusively for years now. I use the traditional Detto Pietro leather-soled shoes and have thin heels put on them. No cleats. You can walk on them quite easily and ride with them with reasonably tight straps and lose nothing in the bargain.
Keep it simple. Forget the cleats. It works.
