Yes, I had considered this but I'm not sure there's enough length on the adjustable cup for it to go in much further and still be able to get the lockring on. I should try it and see.

You may have already thought of this, but we use to quite frequently back in the old days put a 1mm spacer between the fixed cup and the bb to get more clearance.
