I have a certain affinity for Universal 68 brakes. I like the novel release mechanism. I have not always been a fan. However I have about four sets and recently purchased a pair of "Extras," the long reach version.

My complaint is the same as everyone else. They didn't stop for this Clydesdale. What I did back in the day was change to Mathauser ornage/brown pads. Voila, ( I am an unabshed Francofile who used 68s on a PR-10,) they worked. I became a fan. I still am. I will comment later if the Extras cannot be sorted out.

I wish I could find a long reach version of SunTour Superbes. I favor them over Records.

As to an Anglophile note. What would be the value range for a '71 Raleigh Pro special edition frame needing paint but not scarred.. Mine is straight but I really cannot be comfortable on a frame that is about 2cm too small for me now. Ideally I would find a trade for a 57 or 58 frame. Sure I complain about the "twitchiness" of the handling. My impression is that they were built for criterium racing not the road. short with high BB and 172.5 instead of !70 crank arms for a little more leverage out of corners.

I have been unable to locate the owner of the Huffy/Serotta I mentioned a copuple of weeks ago. I will keep my eyes open.
