I've found that, if possible, grinding/sanding is better than sawing/snipping older plastic. A Dremel with one of the thin fiber-reinforced cut-off wheels or the spiral carbide bits is my favorite way to start.

Bigger parts do tend to vibrate and chatter some, especially with the carbide, so support the whole piece.

I need to trim a Club Special to fit between the chain stays. The plastic is probably more brittle than it once was. What's the best method for making a cut without danger of splitting or cracking?
