Thank you all for your interest. I've posted some more pictures as suggested showing the front lug and the mudguard stay. I took photos at every stage of the tear down. It certainly looks similar to the Hill catalogue, and as the lugs date from the same period and given your encouragement I think I'll have a go at a 50's restoration but keep some of the updates. I'll definitely pursue the Hill lead, it would be great to get an i.d. and be able to put some transfers on it will seem like a 'proper' restoration. My wife picked up her new Trek today, so I think we'll be doing more riding than restoring for a while but I'm beginning to know a little more about what I don't know about classic restoration. As for the wife she was amazed, but as she stroked her 2009 WSD specific, declared 'this obsession with steel must be a bloke thing'. Thanks again Ken Foster kenf3@me.com
