I recall reading that the tubing used in the airframes of British fighters was Reynolds 531. So perhaps there is something of a connection...

Thanks Fred, I knew there was a connection. It was lurking in my
subconscious. I believe a lot of aircraft used brazed-up 531 steel tubing so
after the War there were a lot of very experienced torch wielding men and no
doubt women. There was a vogue for lugless frames because of the lack of
lugs with the new 'Continental' angles and some these people found work
readily. One was Len Hart at Gillotts. He taught Ron Cooper. After leaving
Gillotts Len went on to Dawes and helped them develop the lugless
''Kingpin'' model.
