Listers,

It seems I got off on the wrong foot in commenting on this purchase by injecting my personal views on the economy and what's wrong with the world. I've been bombarded on and off list my members who apparently know the buyer and feel I have slighted him. If that's the case, I sincerely apologize. Clearly, every one of us has our own values and reasons to pay what we pay for what we want. Just because I personally would not have paid that price doesn't mean that someone else who does is an idiot or someone with more money than brains. There are hundreds of new, modern bikes out there selling for a lot more, so buying a piece of history that may not come around again is quite justified for someone to whom it's important. It seems this situation comes up over and over again where folks differ on the value of rare vintage bikes and whoever paid the disputed price ends up being stereotyped as something he is not. I'll know enough next time not to add fuel to the fire.

No hard feelings, I hope,
