Mondia frameset 153546 is a 1970 Special constructed of metric sized Reynolds 531 tubing which is brazed together using a Nervex Pro lugset excepting its modified Bocama bottom bracket shell. It was originally painted Light Green with White to Red fade and had exposed chrome plating on the lower front fork and rear stays to include its Campagnolo forged 1010 dropouts with rack eyelets, the center section of the seat tube, both the upper and lower head lugs, and its Vagner fork crown.

That Bocama bottom bracket shell is indeed French threaded, and so too should be its steer tube. Unless someone has been fiddling with things, in no way, shape, or form should there be any manner of Swiss threading to be found on this particular bike.

Before anyone out there gets the mistaken impression that I know every detail about every Mondia ever produced, please allow me to set the record straight: I DO NOT (...not even close). But I do happen to track every Mondia that comes to my attention, including those offered for sale on the likes of eBay or Craigslist. I then diligently digitally copy all of the information provided (...including any photographs), expressly ask the seller just what the serial number of the bicycle in question might be (...assuming that said number was not already supplied), and subsequently catalog all of that information into a database for future reference.

While I cannot determine the specific brand of headset given the photographs associated with the original sales venue, I can most certainly say that the one which was installed upon your receipt of this frameset is decidedly NOT original to the bike. Were I in your position, I would start at that point and with that individual component when trying to determine just why the respective crown race and top cup are loose.

i picked up a mondia special serial # 153546 late 60-70's ? the bottom bracket seems fine with french stronglight but the head set crown race is not snug and the top cup is loose.
