Hi David, I have a die, and I can be at the shop in Arlington pretty much any time this week except for Wednesday morning. I'll actually be down in the area tomorrow morning- maybe mid afternoon, and could stick around later. The shop is technically closed till mid Feb. but I have a key so I can do stuff pretty much anytime.

If you have time to wait, I got the die from bike tools etc. It was pretty inexpensive, but they usually have very little inventory this time of year. I haven't checked stock recently.

And while I'm posting, I may as well make a bit of a shameless plug. The shop is The Bike Stop 43R Dudley St Arlington Massachusetts http://www.abikestop.com

While we're a shop that caters mostly to the bike path crowd we do some vintage stuff, although most of it is lower end or BMX/stingray type stuff. But I'm there as a mechanic 1-2 days a week in season and I do have an assortment of useful tools like dies and crank pullers. (And working on getting the shop to buy some of the more expensive ones) I'm also allowed to sell stuff through the shop, and I usually have a few interesting bits either there or in my van. If you live anywhere near locally, or are just passing through the Boston area feel free to stop by.

David, The best idea I have is to find a machine shop that can cut/ clean up your axle. A good lathe/machinist should do the trick. Greg Davis Mountain View, CA
