Thanks for the post. Back in '66 I was the manager and coach of the US World's Cycling Team. The races were held in Germany. After the World's I took a 4 of the guys and we went on a post World's pre-olympic tour. Our uys were invited to race in Holland, Belgium, and England. We stayed at the Velhotel Simpson and had dinner with Tommy after riding several criteriums. Lucky for us he just was there and was indeeed most friendly and personable. Sadly a year later he died, but at least we got to meet him and our young guys were very impressed. Interestingly we respected his starpower and we didn't bother photo opting but I guess we should have. I think I have a snap
of the Velhotel.
