Subject: [CR] Chas Roberts frame

I recently tried to identify two frames that were thought to be Roberts, one of which , a fast road frame with fast back stays, actually had Roberts transfers and was extremely well built, biut had had a hard life to date. It was numbered something like 1798. The other frame was an equally well-built track frame, with everything so well done, but without transfers and numbered RO7025.

I rang Chas to have a natter about the frames. congratulated him on his qua;ity build, only to be told that neither frame was a Roberts ! I wqas pretty certain that the track frame with its RO prefix MUST be a Roberts...but if it is it must be a Geoff Roberts...Charlie Roberts brother.

As far as I can remember Roberts frames are numbered without a prefix and according to the date of manufacture..so it seems logical that your frame might have been built on the 27 July 1970. If it is a Roberts and dates from this late 60s/70s period it will be a Charlie Roberts ie Chas Roberts' father rather than a Chas Roberts ie Charlie's son.

I hope this might help a little. Best bet is to give him a ring as the company is quite busy and I doubt that Chas has too much time to chase emails.
