Harvey Sachs suggested I post this to the list. On the chainset in question, the spider is not joined to crankarm with expensive splines, it is simply swaged, just like the chainsets on Raleigh Sports and similar others. The high-end one that Peter displayed has the spider and crankarm forged in one piece.
