Hi Paul,

The catalogue illustrations (which are, I appreciate, not to be relied upon one hundred percent) show the RRA with slender, unfluted cranks in the 1935 and 1938 catalogues.

Perhaps the cranks changed to the fluted pattern for the '39 model? I don't have a '39 catalogue, and the illustration of the RRA in the '40 catalogue isn't clear, but the Charles Holland Continental which is illustrated alongside the '40 RRA, and which is, according to the catalogue, as the RRA except for frame sizes, handlebar, saddle and paint job, appears to have fluted cranks.

The 1936 or 37 RRA I acquired recently, thanks to you, has later C34 cranks, so I can't tell from that one. Incidentally, I'm making progress with it, and will post pics when it's rebuilt. I was in the garage this morning, sorting out handlebars and brakes. For warmth, along sleeved T-shirt, two thick sweaters, a track suit top and a very thick jacket; I was able to move, but only just...
