Hello Dale,

I am with you. I try and offer here, but I can't give the items away. We have given some things away before, but it is not sensible to do so all the time. This website is fun for the technical information hat so many here offer, but there are some people out in the vintage cycling world (I apologize if I offend any of you whom this is directed toward) who are out for self only to and get what they can get for free or near nothing. With these type of people, which are around us every day, both here and in our daily lives. This is when it has to go on sale on Ebay to let the market be the deciding price of the item. I think it is sort of cheesy to use the CR thread for bringing attention to "Hey folks, look here at my stuff on Ebay"!!! If that is what was going on here constantly, it would eventually be no fun. Take care Dale and thanks for your input.

Best Regards, John Proch La Grange, Texas

I also feel a bit sheepish and awkward when by necessity I offer things for sale or announce an eBay auction. But you know, that is perhaps overly sensitive, because in truth, I think we all are interested in the offerings of bonfide vintage goods. That is why I have the 1 time rule; to keep folks from overdoing it and yet be able to make one such announcement for their items.

It gets complicated when people courteously offer things to the CR group before going to eBay. Then, when failing to find a buyer, they want to announce the eBay auction. so now we have a twice mentioned item. This far I have allowed that, seems fair.

What I do not like is when sellers are chastised when they offer something for sale because CR viewer members think the price is too high or some detail of the presentaion... THAT is rude in my opinion. If we do like the price or the item, we do not buy; simple.

Not that anyone here really cares about my opinions...

=8-)

But I thought I'd say the following:

Don't know exactly why I feel this way, but in all honesty everytime I see members post notifications of their own eBay listings - I just always seem to find myself thinking, "That is not very professional..."

Sure it's okay according to CR rules and Dale and company, but in light of the fact that what we are using here via the CR listserv is provided pretty much free at someone elses expense, it's kinda as they say over at bikeforums.net:

"Shameless self promotion!"

I personally prefer that someone else find my listing and leave it up to them to point it out to others on the list. This way I don't feel like I am being pushy or taking unfair advantage of the CR crew. An unbiased and uncensored freely operating third party is doing it - not I.

Charles Nighbor is pretty good about persuing eBay and Craigslist and notifying

everyone here of what he finds - including two of my own items in the past year.

(Thank you Charles for helping sell my Zeus collection...)

Just thought I'd throw in my opinion and see what Dale and Co. have to say in response.

=8-)
