Subject: [CR] For Sale Rickert, Stallard, Mercier, Shorter, Whitlow-CB bilam frames etc Mavic SSC wheels,

Offered to CR members are some beautiful, interesting and uncommon frames - the Rickert is really rather nice and I do rate the Moser Leader AX frames which are really beautifully built - Norris Lockley outlined how the silver fillet brazed frames came about a couple of years ago on the list... And there's a Shorter TT frame which is really rather good too. The Hannington trailercycle is without doubt a very useable classic - which can be used with your child on a daily basis or on classic rides.

I will have some further Shimano AX, Arabesque and early Dura-Ace groupsets for sale by early next week - please enquire if you're interested as there are a number of options available...

I can take payment a number of ways - Paypal or cheque in GBP, cash sent registered post, Traveller’s cheques in $, direct bank transfer within the UK or European Iban bank transfer. I will always combine shipping in order to reduce costs.

Frames and wheels cost 80 GBP to ship to the USA, 100 GBP to ship to Australia/New Zealand and 11 GBP within the UK.

With the pound being still quite low in value these are a real bargain... for US and European buyers. Paypal is quoting 1.65$ to 1 GBP.

RICKERT SPEZIAL ROAD FRAME c1988 Seat Tube (ctc): 55.5cm Top Tube (ctc): 55.5cm Rear dropout width: 126mm Wheel size: 700C Frame tubing: Probably Reynolds 531 double butted Brake drop with 700C/Sprint wheel: 47mm Rickert was one of the top German framebuilders and with this frame you can see why - it simply exudes quality. The paintwork is in very nice condition - it has some marks but nothing which stands out too much... Bottom bracket threads are standard English. 175 GBP http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r77/hilarystone/Rickert-sml.jpg

P T STALLARD MONTLHERY ROAD FRAME Seat Tube (ctt): 21in 53cm Top Tube (ctc): 21.75in (55.5cm) Rear dropout width: 115mm Wheel size: 27in/sprints/700C Brake drop with 700C/Sprint wheel: 58mm Frame tubing: Reynolds 531 Seatpost size: 27.2mm An early Percy Stallard Monthlery model frame from 1947. The frame appears to be in excellent condition and has been very nicely repainted. This frame features some very attractively cut lugs. It has had rack mounts fitted on the rear stays and there is a period type rack which will be included with the frame. Percy Stallard was essentially the founder and leading light behind the development of road racing in Britain in the 1940s and he sponsored a race team in the 1940s. His shop was in Broad Street, Wolverhampton. Frames were built from 1945 until the late 1960s. See http://www.classiclightweights.co.uk/stallard.html for more details of Percy Stallard and his frames. 125 GBP http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r77/hilarystone/Stallard-Monthlery.jpg

HANNINGTON CHILD’S TRAILERCYCLE This is a truly lovely child’s trailercycle built probably in the 1960s - it is far superior to the cheap modern ones which attach to the seatpost. The lower fitting with the hitch vertically over the rear wheel on a purpose built rack means that the towing bike does not get tugged in anything like the same manner as the cheap ones. Isla Rowntree and Burley copied this design when they built child trailercycles in the 1990s because it was simply the best design...The seat tube is 14in long on the trailercycle - this is short enough for most 6-7 year olds with the short cranks - the cranks can be changed as the child gets older and its suitable up to about 9 years old. 69 GBP http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r77/hilarystone/Hannington-trailercycle.jpg

MERCIER ROAD FRAME 56cm 1950s Classic French road frame Seat Tube (ctc): 56cm ctc Top Tube (ctc): 56cm ctc Rear dropout width: 120mm Wheel size: 27in, Sprints or 700C (brake drop of approx 62mm) Bottom bracket threads: French This frame is in very sound condition and is a rare example in Britain of a 1950s French road frame built almost certainly for use with a Simplex derailleur. 55 GBP http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r77/hilarystone/Mercier-1950s.jpg http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r77/hilarystone/Mercier-1950s-dets.jpg

SHORTER TT Seat Tube (ctt): 21.75in Top Tube (ctc): 21.5in Rear dropout width: 122mm Wheel size: 700C Frame tubing: Reynolds 531 butted main tubes Brake drop with 700C/Sprint wheel: 45mm Alf Engers the great British short distance time trial specialist rode Shorter frames in the 1970s. Their frames were not built in house but by a variety of framebuilders including it is believed Vic Edwards and Wally Green. This particular frame could well be a Vic Edwards built frame - it is lighter than a standard 531 DB frame and has some really nice details including the fastback seatstays. 85 GBP http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r77/hilarystone/Shorter-TT.jpg

WHITLOW CLAUD BUTLER 1948 Seat Tube (ctt): 26in 66cm (25in 63.5cm to top of top tube) Top Tube (ctc): 23.5in (60cm) Rear dropout width: 115mm Wheel size: 27in/sprints/700C Brake drop with 700C/Sprint wheel: 63mm Frame tubing: Probably Reynolds 531 This is one truly big frame - both long in the seat tube and top tube. Although transferred as a Whitlow of Runcorn it was undoubtedly built by Claud Butler. The rear dropouts are proprietary Claud Butler, the BB carries a 1948 CB number and the bi-laminated head, seat and BB is typically Claud but there is another frame number presuambly applied by Whitlow on the left rear dropout. In black and cream it is extremely attractive. The paint is in excellent condition with only a few marks. 165 GBP http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r77/hilarystone/Whitlow-Claud-Butler.jpg

MOSER LEADER AX ROAD FRAME c1990 Seat Tube (ctt): 64cm 58cm (ctc) Top Tube (ctc): 57cm Rear dropout width: 130mm Wheel size: 700C Seatpost size: 27.2mm Frame Tubing: Oria The Leader AX frames were introduced by Moser in around 1989. They were really quite stunning, fillet brazed with silver solder and an oversize top tube they were one of the first of a new breed of steel road frames and looked truly stunning. This one is in very sound condition with good useable paintwork and no dents or dings. 185 GBP

RIDE AND BE DAMMED British Road Race History 1940s/50s by Chas Messenger. This is a history of the League of British Racing Cyclists, the organisation that gave the UK, mass start racing on the road. This book is beautifully illustrated and designed and tells the story of the struggles within the BLRC and struggles that ensued with the National Cyclists Union who opposed racing on the road. It contains accounts of the major events organised by the BLRC in its 16 year existence before merging with the NCU to form the BCF in 1958. It is fascinating read. 150 pages. An absolute must for anyone interested in British cycling in the 40s and 50s. 14 GBP
