Dear CR Friends,
I just want to mention something fun that is due to air on television tomorrow, Thursday Jan. 28. We have word that the History Channel is airing a segment on the program "Modern Marvels" related to "the potato". Apparently about a year ago world renown bike painter and one of my best friends and colleges, Joe Bell, was filmed demonstrating a common framebuilder/painter recreational activity for the History Channel. Jason Lilly, who is also a bike industry person is featured as well. When we gather for parties and fun, one of the favorite activities is shooting the Potato Gun. They are made from plumbing tubing and an igniter from a Coleman lantern. The propellant is usually hair spray or deodorant. The rest of the details are best seen as opposed to explained. I encourage everyone to try and catch Modern Marvels tomorrow at 8pm (as far as we have been told) to see this thing in action. After the show I will explain a little bit of the history of these activities amongst framebuilders (the ones who are fun and creative people, not the ones who take themselves way too seriously) and fill in a few other things we like to do for grins after we've done a hard days work.
I don't have the technology to record the show; but I would love to have a DVD copy or whatever if someone can capture the show. Once I'm all finished moving and getting all set up in my new shop, and after I have caught up a bit; I have plans to build " Uber Potato"; which will be the next stage of refinement of the process. The current generation is called the "Dick Tater". I suspect this will be WELL worth watching, knowing what a fun personality JB has and knowing his ability as a showman. Catch it if you can! NO, not the potato, the TV show!
