Subject: [CR] thoughts on top coating decals

Hi Jerry - Im with Kevin Ruberg on this one!

As usual - its all good - but thick modern paint really detracts me (and of course its totally subjective) - and clear coating decals I'm told tends to show more and more with age. Oxygen penetrates the coating no matter what and can discolor - etc. Maybe however, there are new paints - a question for the expert painters and restorers on CR list - that make this an obsolete problem.

You can see a perfectly nice white Pogliaghi on eBay now - wrong head badge decal for the serial number, but none the less very well presented - except IMHO way to thick paint - totally obscuring the finer details of the lug work. But Ill bet the paint will deflect gun shots :-)

I looked into preserving some original paint frames with clear coat, even coating decals on a vintage chrome frame - and opted not to based on advice from some painters. Let us know what you decide!

Cheers greg
