Thinking back to the 1950s when I lived there and was shopping around for a lightweight for club rides, Dawes was one of the factory-built bikes I was considering, along with Falcon, Coventry Eagle and a few others I can't remember now. Just about any make that offered a model made of 531 with fancy lugs. Raleigh was akin to Hercules, okay for the postman or bobby or a ride-to-work roadster, but not for club riding. In the end I settled for a Claud Butler because I thought the man himself built them in the back of the store. -- John Betmanis Woodstock, Ontario Canada
