Jack, I would try to install the BB in the normal fashion. It may surprise you and go in without a problem. My guess is that it will be a little touchier than one that had not been compromised but if you can get it started, it may be just fine.

The ideal tool for installing the fixed cup would be the big honkin' tool from the Campy tool kit (not the flat wrench). It holds the cup and aligns it. It's usually great to have the help of that tool. Not likely to be in a home tool box but worth seeking out if the cup is iffy about aligning with the threads.

As for the adjustable cup, I've had good luck with using the lock ring to help me keep it aligned. That is, I screw it on almost to the starting end of the threads. It is helpful as an alignment guage for starting the threads and also for double checking the gap to see if it is parallel to the edge of the cup.

As much as I like a freshly tapped and faced BB shell, I wouldn't do that if I could start the cups without doing that. Best of luck.
