Jon Spangler mentioned Phil and the legendary and long-lived hubs. Long ago I had Phil make an axle for me that was a cottered campag axle. Used a damaged axle (bearing surfaces) and put it into a Phil shell. On the same W/O I had him make a TA Criterium Phil BB, I think thats a W-195 setup. Around 1973 I think. Nice work, the bearings of course are not waterproof and if you keep wiping the grease off at the rubber/metal interface the bearings will eventually fail. Leaving the grubby grease there keep the rest of the grease from migrating out into the sunshine. No Phil BB that I've used ever failed.
