Paul:

I lived there for 6 months in 2005, and if you can find something interesting, you'll be doing better than I did. The situation there with our kind of bikes is pretty dismal. Most bikes are rusty, gaspipe 70s bike-boom creations. The most common modern bike is a ~$200 hybrid. Interesting classics or even high-end modern ones are fairly uncommon.

There are a lot of small bike shops, most of which are not terribly interesting. I found only two US-style large stores, one near the mall at Tallaght and another on Henry St. in Dublin. These didn't offer anything you can't find in similar stores in the US.

Will you be bicycling there? If so, bring a tough bike with good gears and lots of tire protection. No bottle-deposit law, so there's plenty of broken glass along the streets.

Anyway, have fun. My recommendation is to forget about bike stores and spend the time in a nice, cozy pub with good music. Much easier to find.
