Subject: Re: [CR] Eisentraut Serial Number Dating

I have an all original yellow 1972 Eisentraut which has some typical features such as the very refined fully sloping fork crown, arcane size allen key seat binder bolt, and the beautifully scalloped side of the seat lug attached seat stay caps which I have seen before on frames which do not have the seat stays "shot" into the seat binder bolt. There are no braze-ons other than a cable guide on the drive side chain stay. This frame does not have the signature integral cable guides on the bottom bracket which I have been led to believe came later? What makes this frame interesting and perhaps somewhat unique is that the lugs are nicely thinned Nervex rather than the Prugnats I have seen on other Traut frames from this time period. This is the only Eisentraut from that time period I have seen with Nervex lugs and I was told when I acquired the bike that Albert was initially enamored with Nervex lugs because of the influence of the Wastyn's and the Schwinn Paramounts. Can anyone shed any light on this? So far as I know this is not a second tier frame and my understanding was that at that time they were not making secondary tier frames? However, I seem to remember seeing a much later second tier frame (different decals) which had Nervex lugs. The serial number is E 010 3 72 which would lead me to believe that this was the tenth frame built in March of 1972. As mentioned it is all original including paint and Eisentraut decals. Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

Here's some additional info on my 72 Eisentraut:

This is taken directly from the Missing Link warranty card the came with the

frame. Missing Link was a student owned bike shop on the UC Berkeley campus near Sproul Plaza.

Make: Eisentraut Model: M Racing 74 degree head angle 73 degree seat angle Frame #: E020272 Color: Bronze Casting / Blue Size: 62cm/24.4" (That's a center to top measurement although Eisentraut measured center to center. In his class be said that's the only accurate way to measure) Price: $240.00 frame, multi-color paint, fork, Campy Headset Date sold: August 6 1972 by Max Sheppard, the manager. Max later built up an

all black Eisentraut with all the Campy NR components anodized black. I wonder where that bike is now.
